Juneteenth

The African American Heritage Museum of Southern New Jersey (AAHMSNJ) will host its Second Annual Juneteenth Celebration at the museum’s Atlantic City location inside the Noyes Arts Garage of Stockton University (2200 Fairmount Ave, Atlantic City, NJ). 

Sponsored by The Greenidge Funeral Home, the celebration will be a vibrant, two-day event held on Friday, June 19th and Saturday, June 20th. Both days will feature programming from Noon until 5 PM. The public is invited to honor this historic milestone through an enriching lineup of keynote speakers, local leaders, moving tributes, live music, and diverse vendors. 

Schedule of events for Friday, June 19: 

12:00 to 1:00 p.m.: Music by Tony Day Trio, shopping from vendors  

1:00 to 3:00 p.m.: Speaking program  

  • Introduction by AAHMSNJ volunteer Casey Bell  

  • Keynote speaker: Yolanda Melville, Director of the New Jersey Division on Civil Rights 

  • Prayer by Dr. Thelma Witherspoon, host of "In the Community with Dr. Thelma Witherspoon" on te two-time Stellar Award-winning WEHA Gospel 88.7 and 100.3 FM 

  • Storytelling by Michelle Washington Wilson, a renowned motivational storyteller, who will bring local history to life through her unique artistic performance 

3:00 to 5:00 p.m.: Speaking program ends, music interlude from Tony Day Trio  

Continuous shopping throughout event timing of 12:00 to 5:00 p.m.:  

  • Food available to order from Ezell Barnes, owner of Zoagie’s food truck  

  • Shopping from local artists and black-owned businesses 

Inside the museum, visitors will be treated to a powerful new series of educational banners charting the history of Juneteenth and slavery, designed by artist Carla Cornick and edited by Pernell Ponce. The exhibit Curators are My’air Henry, Adrianna Schofield, and Guiven St. Jean.
