Artist Statement

Uwe Poth gets deeply and sensitively involved with a given situation and responds to it as an artist. For example, in a given piece of work he may quote special architectural motifs or the entire structure of a build complex. The colors and textures of his pictures may be inspired by simply the colors and materials of an attractive place. In each of his works his reaction to such specific places interact with a thorough reflection of the European history of ideas and this provides him with an inexhaustible repertoire of images and references. At first glance, the combination of the different fragments might be puzzling and amazing but, to Uwe Poth, it is natural. The painting or drawing becomes plausible as soon as the imagery works in and contributes to the picture in some way.
